This paper reports on the development of a specification for the new offshore helideck lighting scheme introduced in the 7th Edition of CAP 437, Standards for Offshore Helicopter Landing Areas. Building on the experimental trials reported in CAA Papers 2004/01, 2005/01 and 2006/03, a draft specification was produced and used to tender for the manufacture of a prototype lighting system for installation on an offshore platform for in-service evaluation. The paper describes the development of the initial specification, reports on the trials performed and presents the final version of the lighting system specification which is also contained in CAP 437 7th Edition.
