This paper reports on the investigation of the human factors issues associated with escape from a side-floating helicopter performed by RGIT Ltd. The study consisted of a comparison between escape from fully inverted and side-floating helicopters in a series of helicopter underwater escape trainer trials using 30 naive subjects. The hydrodynamic aspects of providing a post capsize side-floating attitude are addressed in CAA Paper 97010.
