The purpose of this Safety Notice is to raise awareness of i) the hazards associated with carbon monoxide exposure, ii) the means of minimising the likelihood of carbon monoxide contamination and iii) to provide guidance on the use of carbon monoxide detectors in general aviation aircraft.

Version 2 made reference to the CO concentration check introduced with Part-ML and also updates regarding the practical CO detector trial run by the CAA in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Version 3 provides additional guidance on the use of commercial off the shelf carbon monoxide detectors in general aviation aircraft to protect pilots and passengers from CO. Additionally, this update includes some of the findings from the CAA 12-month study of low-cost active CO detectors, which concluded last year.
