This report describes a study undertaken by ERCD on behalf of the Aircraft Noise Management Advisory Committee (ANMAC) to investigate and potentially improve the accuracy of aircraft noise monitoring at locations outside of the 54 dBA LAeq 16hr contours, and to consider issues related to modelling at these lower contour levels. To take account of developments since the publication of the first edition of this report in 2010, including new government guidance on the environmental assessment of airspace change proposals, this second edition has been updated by ERCD to include new references and information on alternative noise event detection methods.
