This document provides general guidance on fundamental airspace concepts. It is particularly aimed at the regulatory teams of organisations working on innovation in services for UAS or RPAS, as well as new types of aircraft. This document explains: (i) the fundamental airspace concepts relevant to the UK, including classification, structures, management, and charges; (ii) how the UK airspace is currently used, and how changes to its structure take place; (iii) the role and characteristics of air navigation service providers and the en route service provider; and (iv) the future aircraft, as well as use cases we expect in the UK.
