Contact us before applying for an authorisation to operate BVLOS at multiple locations
If you're considering applying for an operational authorisation to operate BVLOS at multiple locations, contact us first: uksora@caa.co.uk
You can apply for an operational authorisation that covers more than one geographical location. You must be able to demonstrate that you'll meet the UK SORA requirements at each location.
There are differences between applications for VLOS and BVLOS operations.
VLOS operations with multiple locations
If you want an authorisation to carry out VLOS operations at multiple locations, you must specify the characteristics of the operational volume, ground risk buffer, adjacent area and airspace where you'll operate.
This means you could apply for a VLOS authorisation to operate in a broad geographical location, such as 'all of the UK'.
You must show you have sufficient procedures in place to correctly identify the operational volume, ground risk buffer, adjacent area, and airspace character at each individual location where you'll operate.
BVLOS operations with multiple locations
If you want an authorisation to carry out BVLOS operations at multiple locations, you must identify each location and detail the specific operational volumes, ground risk buffers, adjacent areas and airspace for each location when you apply.
Your operational authorisation will detail the specific operational volumes, ground risk buffers, adjacent areas, and airspace characters of each location you're authorised to operate in.
You must not operate in an operational volume, buffer, adjacent area, or airspace characterisation without approval from the CAA.
Limit on the number of locations
We may limit the number of locations we assess or authorise as part of a single application for any of the following reasons:
- effective safety management
- impact on air traffic
- excessive application time or cost
