UK SORA: Available from 23 April 2025


UK SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) replaces the Operating Safety Case (OSC) method as the way to apply for an operational authorisation in the Specific Category from 23 April 2025.


You cannot apply for an operational authorisation using UK SORA until 23 April, but it's a good idea to read this section if you're considering applying for a Specific Category operational authorisation.


Use this service to apply for a UK SORA-based Operational Authorisation to operate in the Specific Category.

You can also continue or check the status of an existing application.

Follow these steps to apply.

1  Check that a UK SORA-based Operational Authorisation is right for you

Check your proposed operations are covered by UK SORA

Make sure you understand the charges for UK SORA.

2  Prepare key details of your proposed operations

Make sure you're familiar with the UK SORA policy (opens in a new tab).

3  Log in to My Operational Authorisations to start

You can also continue or check the status of an existing application.

You'll need your Operator ID and the email or mobile number associated with your registration.


Make sure you use the correct Operator ID

Make sure you log in and apply with the correct Operator ID.

If you’re a sole trader and you want your authorisation to be issued in your trading name, you apply using an organisation Operator ID.

You cannot transfer an operational authorisations from one Operator ID to another.
