We have provided a high-level overview of the A2 CofC below.

Course format

  • Self-directed practical training
  • Theory test, comprising of at least 30 multiple choice questions, covering: meteorology; UAS flight performance; technical and operational mitigations for ground risk
  • The theory test may be online or paper-based

Minimum age

  • None

  • VLOS

  • Flyer ID

Period of validity

  •  Five years

Drones that weigh 250g to 500g

If you have the A2 CofC you can also fly a drone or model aircraft that weighs 250g to 500g closer to people than 50m. You still must not intentionally fly over people.

This is a transitional option available until January 2026.
