A SAIL Mark demonstrates that an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) meets a specific set of UK SORA requirements.

The requirements map to the UK SORA SAIL levels, from 1 to 6.

As more SAIL-marked UAS become available, Operators will be able to use them to comply with certain UK SORA technical requirements when applying for an Operational Authorisation.

Getting a SAIL Mark Certificate

Designers wishing to get a SAIL Mark Certificate for their UAS must ask a Recognised Assessment Entity for Flightworthiness (RAE(F)) to assess their UAS against the requirements.

The RAE(F) will carry out their assessment and advise us whether the UAS meet the requirements. If we agree that a UAS meets the requirements, we will grant a SAIL Mark Certificate according to certain conditions.

Supporting the adoption and development of SAIL Marking

We introduced the SAIL Mark policy concept in March 2025.

We are working closely with designers, prospective RAE(F)s and the wider UA sector to support its successful adoption and will continue to evolve the policy.
