The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) publishes other webpages regarding specific equipment approvals. These include Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) and various radio equipment types. The specific pages provide details of the certification requirements for each equipment type as well as links to the relevant application forms and guidance information.
The pages listed in the menu bar contain further information regarding the aircraft equipment categories specified.
Explained are the certification requirements set for the operation of each equipment type.
Links to the relevant application forms and to guidance information have also been included.
For approval of equipment that is intended to be used in aircraft, applications must be made to the CAA for a UK Technical Standard Order Authorisation (UKTSOA) using the SRG1726NR form. For modifications to existing equipment approvals for non-Part 21 aircraft, this should be made clear on the application form under 2c), using the ‘Other’ field.
The SRG1726NR form, together with the appropriate fee, should be sent to apply@caa.co.uk. The CAA Scheme of Charges provides further information on costs.
The Mandatory Requirements for Airworthiness (CAP747) contains the list of Non-Part 21 aircraft types. Part 21 aircraft types are listed under their applicable Type Certificate Data Sheet.
Handheld radio approval
The CAA has issued Light Aircraft Class 3 Equipment Approval (LA301075) for Handheld Radios with 8.33kHz Channel Spacing Capability that meet the identified clauses of ETSI Standard EN300 676-1.
Electronic Conspicuity (EC) approval
The CAA produced the Electronic conspicuity devices (CAP 1391) document in collaboration with the GA community, which provides information on the minimum specification you need to meet when manufacturing EC devices.
Your device can only legally be used on board an aircraft with an acknowledged declaration. When you manufacture EC devices you have to fill in a declaration of capability and conformance form.
The CAA will publish the declaration for specific Electronic Conspicuity devices. Please note, there is currently no charge for processing these declarations.
Certain changes to your EC device require a new declaration of capability and conformance to be submitted, the Electronic conspicuity devices (CAP 1391) document provides further details.
If it comes to the CAA's attention that there is an issue with your declaration or EC device, we will contact you using the details you have provided.
We have issued a Light Aircraft Class 3 Equipment Approval (LA301076) for Electronic Conspicuity (EC) devices that meet the technical specification requirements of Electronic conspicuity devices (CAP 1391), Chapter 6.
