Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis A infection is disqualifying (certification will be considered upon full recovery).
Pilots are required to submit a medical report to include:
- History of infection.
- Symptoms experienced, course and duration.
- Laboratory confirmation of infection (HAV serology).
- Liver function tests.
- Report of ultrasound of the liver (if performed).
Hepatitis B
- Acute hepatitis B is disqualifying (certification may be considered upon full recovery (viral clearance)).
- Chronic hepatitis B – certification may be considered in pilots in an ‘immune tolerant’ or ‘inactive HBV carrier state’.
- Requirement for ongoing treatment is normally disqualifying.
Pilots are required to submit a report from a liver specialist, to include:
- History of infection.
- Symptoms experienced and course of infection.
- Liver function tests, and markers, for example, alpha-foetoprotein (AFP) where appropriate.
- All laboratory HBV serology performed.
- Report of ultrasound of the liver.
Other reports and laboratory testing may be required to assess risk.
Hepatitis C
- Acute hepatitis C is disqualifying (certification may be considered upon full recovery (viral clearance)).
- Chronic hepatitis C - certification may be considered following successful treatment which has rendered the pilot disease free.
- Requirement for ongoing treatment is normally disqualifying.
Pilots are required to submit a report from a liver specialist, to include:
- History of infection.
- Symptoms experienced and course of infection including any CNS effects.
- Liver function tests.
- All laboratory HCV serology performed.
- Report of ultrasound of the liver including biopsy results if performed, pilots may be required to undergo neuropsychological assessment.
Other reports and laboratory testing may be required to assess risk.
